Almost everyone knows that the Apache web server is always crazy in consuming memory and CPU. Even in certain conditions, Apache can cause very high CPU load while working to process PHP, especially if your site running on WordPress. Anyway I'm not surprised if Apache consume too much memory and CPU.

Unfortunately, cPanel WHM just put Apache as the front-end servers that can cause a high CPU load when your sites get high traffic. That's why is highly recommended to put Nginx in front of Apache or commonly known as a reverse proxy. This can significantly reduce CPU load and memory consumption in your cPanel server, as well as improve performance. Apache will act as the backend, while Nginx as a front-end server. So htaccess rules will still function normally.

Why not use LiteSpeed web server? You know LiteSpeed license price per month is quite expensive. Also, it would be very inefficient if we just use cPanel + LiteSpeed to host a personal blog. As for selling hosting, it's okay to use LiteSpeed on cPanel. However, I personally prefer to use Nginx, because it's free open source software.



I also would upgrade from MySQL to MariaDB, and provide performance tuning for your server.

Surgery was a success but the patient died. Perhaps the cpanel setup was completed but I could not use it to clone my domains from other servers. Had to wipe out the server and start over.
